PROJECTS
KROPZ
Elandsfontein Phosphate Optimisation Project
Location: West Coast near Saldana and Hopefield
Kimbercross has been involved with the Elandsfontein team since late 2018 in various roles. Initially is was purely in a project management role to support the Kropz team in managing the EPCM contractor involved with executing the “Elandsfontein Optimisation Project”, during which time the process plant was upgraded and brought back into operation. Since the completion of that phase of work, the Kimbercross team has assisted Kropz with the ongoing commissioning and further optimisation of the process plant and more recently has been tasked with managing and/or executing the majority of stay in business work across the mine. The type of projects being managed and/or executed by Kimbercross include small (pump upgrades, flush point addition, heating system inclusion etc.), medium (dewatering cyclone inclusion, pit dewatering, mining workshop erection completion) and large (centrifuge installation) projects across the full suite of disciplines.
LETSENG DIAMONDS
Letseng Diamonds Tailings Expansion Project
Location: Lesotho
Kimbercross partnered with GeoTail to initially complete a scoping level study for the life of mine tailings deposition planning. The work included the simulation of deposition options linked to airspace modelling of the life of mine deposition rates, together with the associated conveyor and seepage dam infrastructure. The work spanned the full suite of engineering disciplines and ultimately identified two viable solutions for the life of mine deposition strategy to take forward. The Kimbercross and GeoTail team were then requested to upgrade the scoping study to a full feasibility study that complied with the stage gate requirements as well as fed into the GISTM requirements of the tailings facility through the engineer of record. The feasibility study work was completed in early 2023 and handed over the GEM/Letseng Diamonds team.
ORION MINERALS
Prieska Zinc Copper Mine Project
Location: Prieska Northern Cape
Kimbercross partnered with Turnkey Civils International (TCI) on this project, which included various stages of scoping and feasibility investigations to provide the Prieska Copper Zinc Mine (PCZM) team with solutions and pricing for their tailings and effluent systems. The initial phase of the project requires a significant effort to dewater the existing mine in order to refurbish the shaft and gain access to the ore. Kimbercross and the TCI team were required to balance the use of forced evaporation, water treatment (by others) and storage of the mine water as well as the handling and disposal of the total dissolved solids within the mine water that will be precipitated out. This ultimately resulted in a site wide water balance together with facility designs for both a Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and Effluent Storage Facility (ESF) to suit the challenge together with the required documentation and drawings to allow for the submission of water use licences of the facilities.
KROPZ
Hinda Phosphate Project
Location: DRC
The Kimbercross team became involved in the Hinda project for Cominco (both entities being subsidiaries of Kropz PLC). Kimbercross took the role of managing an EPCM contractor in the development of a large capital project feasibility study, which was ultimately published in early 2022. Since the publishing of the feasibility study results, the Kimbercross team has continued to support the Cominco management team with various investigations, options and alternatives in the pursuit of getting the project up and running in the Republic of Congo.
TOTAL NINJA
Total Ninja Project
Location: South Africa
Kimbercross were appointed by the Client as the principal agent for the first Total Ninja play park in South Africa, to manage and co-ordinate the project designs and professional team, as well as manage the contracts. After the successful completion of the Black River Parkway venue in Cape Town in 2022, Kimbercross took the lessons learnt and went on to fulfil the same role for two more Total Ninja Parks in Johannesburg in 2023, and are currently assisting with the development of a new park in Pretoria.
